There are many people in Florida who are of substantial means. While this can lead to a rewarding life, it complicates matters when it is a married couple and they choose to divorce. Issues that come to the forefront in a high asset divorce include property interests, complex asset division and more. To add to the complicated matters in these circumstances is if it is a famous person who is involved. This will bring the media into the situation and commentary – not all kind – from outsiders. To be protected in any divorce, legal assault if vital.

The rapper and entertainer known as Vanilla Ice – real name Robert Van Winkle – is divorcing his wife of two decades. Mr. Van Winkle countersued his wife after she filed to end the marriage. In his filing, he says he agrees with his wife that the union is irretrievably broken. Mr. Van Winkle is said to have been trying to save the marriage since his wife’s filing in October. The couple got married in 1997 and they have two children. They have been living separately for six years with Mr. Van Winkle in Lake Worth and Mrs. Van Winkle in Wellington.

In 2016, Mrs. Van Winkle stated that while the couple was separated, they were occasionally dating. She said that she had wanted to divorce for a while and finally decided to move forward with it. In his countersuit, Mr. Van Winkle states that he wants 50/50 custody of their kids. He does not want to pay spousal support. For her part, she says that she helped with his career and stayed home with the children, therefore she should get spousal support. Although Mr. Winkle struggled after his breakout in 1990, he eventually found his niche with other projects including a home improvement show.

People who are getting a divorce whether it is high asset or of more modest means initially might not be able to identify with the financial and personal issues that are causing Mr. Van Winkle and his wife to divorce, but any divorce has similarities such as disagreements over custody and support. When there is a high asset divorce, one of the most important aspects is to have legal assistance. This is the first call to make when considering a divorce.
