The process of separating one’s life from that of their marital partner can take some time. Florida couples that choose to divorce may have to endure months of negotiations before their final decrees of divorce are issued by the courts. During that time, the partners may begin to live their separate lives even though technically they are still wed.
Television star Jesse Williams and his soon-to-be ex-wife Aryn Drake-Lee have filed for divorce and are in the process of ending their marriage. However, Williams recently agreed to begin paying an advance on spousal support, child support and Drake-Lee’s attorneys’ fees even though their divorce has not been finalized. In total, Williams will pay Drake-Lee $160,000 in advance of their divorce to help care for their two shared children, provide her with financial support and assist in the payment of her legal expenses.
When the partners to couples separate but have not yet finished negotiations on ending their marriages, temporary orders of support may be issued to ensure that everyone in the dissolving families are provided for. Temporary orders of this nature fill the gap between permanent custody and support orders that are issued at the finalization of divorces; they serve an important purpose in the divorce process and can help individuals manage expectations as they work to end their marriages.
Although Williams and Drake-Lee have established a temporary plan of financial support for Drake-Lee and the couple’s children, they will still need to come to terms with a permanent solution to these important divorce-related topics. Williams and Drake-Lee’s situation is not uncommon and readers with questions about temporary support and custody orders may seek the counsel of legal professionals.
